“This man is unstoppable, and it seems is getting younger as time passes.”
So says Rachel Maza of Jack Charles – self-described “addict, homosexual, cat burglar, Aboriginal, actor” – who at 70 has become the first indigenous person to win a lifetime achievement gong at Victoria’s Green Room Awards.
Charles, whose many lives have inspired a documentary, Bastardy, and acclaimed one-man show Jack Charles v the Crown, which has toured internationally, says he wants to use his success to bring theatre workshops to Aboriginal prisoners.
