A national initiative to tackle homelessness by selling cabins that fit in backyards is being launched in Perth.
The basic unit has been designed by the organisation Street Swags, which has distributed 36,000 uniquely designed swags to homeless Australians over the past 10 years.
Founder Jean Madden said the new structure was natural progression to a “swag with walls”.
“We are increasing our services to also provide built shelters. It’s always been a plan of mine to move people off the streets, so it’s a natural next step for our organisation,” she said.
“It’s my plan to make us redundant, to end systematically entrenched poverty in Australia.”
