Brierly kept a journal along the way, writing about the environment and their experiences, and making sketches, some of which were later developed into paintings.
Mark McKenna, author of the award winning history of European settlement, ‘Looking for Blackfellas Point’, has been researching the journal and the significance of Brierly’s documentation and sketches.
In this video he refers to sections of the journal and several of the sketches.
He was interviewed at his home by the Towamba River, on the Bundian Way where Brierly, Boyd, and Budginbro passed by one hundred and seventy one years ago.
The group travelled along the Towamba River, then known as the Kiah River, to its source near Cathcart.
