  1. Lyn, the stories I remember from this flood! My grandmother’s house was washed down the main street (there is a photo of that somewhere). The block where it stood is now a park with a steamroller sitting in it. Meanwhile, over the road at the Fire Station, my very pregnant mother was stuck up in the rafters as the flood waters swirled below. As a child I remember the lush green pastures of the Mcleay . . .

    1. Wow. We are Macleay people originally as well. I grew up in Sydney but the family first settled on the Macleay. Imagine being up in the rafters. What was your family name ?

      1. It is indeed a small world! Did you have family back in the Mcleay to visit?

My mother’s family, the Cooks and the Maineys, were all from the McLeay – Millbank and Kempsey while others were based in Armidale. My father was from Lismore and between the two of them we travelled up and down that coast, visiting relatives, for what felt like forever! Nimbin, Bellingen, Dorrigo, Tumbulgum are all names so familiar to me from the long ago.
Funny where life takes us! More chapters to come in the never ending saga that is “where are you from?”

Hope the weather is good for you now where you are Lynne!
